Video gaming have come a long way. Many games evaluators will confirm the fast pace at which games are evolving and every time you think a technology can not be improved, some genius somewhere comes up with something new and exciting. If you look at how video games evolved over the last decade, it's safe to say that video gaming technology is one of the driving forces guiding the evolution of computer systems.
The early pinball machines and then arcade games set a foundation for what was to become our modern day game consoles. When Atari brought the thrill and excitement of arcade games to our living rooms the evolution of games took on a totally new dimension. Apple soon followed with the first home Personal computer that could play games via a TV, however it was the PC that soon took over as the number 1 gaming platform.
With Microsoft and the Windows based pc it opened up a whole new world to potential games developers. The PC was king of video games and 32 bit sound as well as colored screens games was more exciting than in the past.
At the same time, in the dungeons of their secret laboratories Sony began building what was to become Atari's nemesis. The PlayStation was born and against all odds it toppled the PC's reign as king of games. With the obvious restrictions of a PC, PlayStation once again brought gaming into the living room and as a dedicated video gaming platform it was capable of a lot of things the PC could not perform.
With this market growing at a phenomenal rate, Microsoft needed to get in on the action and shortly their Xbox was released as a direct competitor to the PlayStation. Again, they managed to steal a massive market share and with better machines, better graphics and (a few may say) superior games it became a force to be reckoned with.
As if the competition between these two weren't enough along came yet another old timer, Nintendo and against all expectations, the Wii became one of the most well-liked video gaming platforms. The Wii redefined gaming and with their technology they designed a totally new style of gaming - one which goes beyond age and stereotypical gamers.
One thing is for sure, video games and the video gaming industry is here to stay. It's exciting; its expanding and there are practically no limits. If you see how far we've come in the last decade, then the next decade is bound to deliver some amazing games!
