What Are The Causes of e74 Error?

By Leo Thomas

If you own an Xbox 360 and have friends with them, you're probably familiar with the red ring of death or the e74 error. Some people resort to sending Microsoft their machine and some others try and go it alone and fix it themselves. You may find it hard to believe, but there are owners that actually ignore it and pray that it will go away. It's important to know what the cause is in order to fix it.

It's common knowledge amongst experts and gamers alike that the e74 error is caused by your system overheating. You know what it's like to be deep into a game for a couple hours and have your machine heat up. Once your machine can't take the heat anymore it just shuts itself down. How terrible is it when your system freezes right in the middle of my game.

Others think the error is because of a design flaw that can be traced back to the factory. According to those folks, the machine is built in such a way that it cannot cool down. If the heat persists, then the solder joints that connect the wires to the motherboard break and then you've got problems.

So, what is the failure rate of the Xbox 360 gaming system? While not all failures are caused by the e74 error, the majority of them are. Some of the biggest resellers in the world, including Best Buy and Gamestop, claim that the failure rate is as high as 33 percent. Believe it or not, some repair shops stopped taking the Xbox 360 because they could not find a full repair for a defective system. Along with this, Microsoft is not even able to fix this error. In fact, most people claim a fix for a few weeks before the same problem comes back.

But, please don't fret; there is good news for a permanent fix. You can use a software program to fix it or you can go out and find, what is basically a fancy fan to keep your system cool.

Given this little bit of information, you are now armed with the cause of the e74 error. Now, it's up to you to find the solution that makes you comfortable. I have searched online and there are definitely permanent fixes out there.
