The Benefits Of Playing A Game

By Sarah L. Goodman

Most parents are mistaken in thinking that playing video games is bad for their children. This need not be true, for it is now known that education video games help improve children's reflexes as well as other skills including their memory and concentration. While this news should make parents as well as teachers happy, it takes quite a bit of effort to get hold of educational video games which are not easy to find.

However good the educational video game might be, it is of no use if your child doesn't take to it. Before you spend something like over 40$ on buying the game CD, it is better that you check out to see if your kid is really interested in the particular game.

Before you set out to buy, do a search on the internet and go through all the games that are available so that you can be sure of what exactly you are looking for depending upon your child's age and interest. While on the net, search out the educational games of Leapfrog which are one of the best in the market. They teach children basic mathematics, alphabets, phonics as well as animals, shapes and colors etc. They offer over 40 different types of games on their handheld system.

Handheld systems are very convenient and ideal for you can connect them to your television set and convert the entire set into a game console and system. If your TV is in the living room, you will be able to watch what is going on and keep an eye too.

If you wish to go in for a computer based game, then you can look at Knowledge Adventure which has produced a series of educational games by the name Jumpstart. These are loaded on to the computer and contain lots of puzzles, games as well as theme based adventure games to teach the children.

These games are not only meant for fun and learning but are designed to help you measure and keep a track of the development of the child in terms of his learning as well as skills. You can record and track his performance with every game he plays successively. Besides you also get a lot of DVDs and workbooks with various activities for the children.

You can either pick up the educational games at your favorite books store or at the electronic supermarkets and even in children's toy shops. You also get them on the internet where you might be able to pick up some good stuff for a discount at auction sites.

Now day's parents encourage the children to play educational games and do not think that it hampers their children. Instead they realize the benefit there lies in imparting education to the children while combining it with activity.
