Slicing is the preferred skill as it seems to be the most profitable of the gathering professions. However, if you do not wish to go that route, make sure you heavily farm whichever one you do choose. Take the materials you've gathered and sell them on the GTN (Galactic Trade Network) to other players.
Pick Up All Loot: Looting every single thing that drops will help increase your pile of credits. All items - even junk - have value. Pick up as much as you can and have your companions go off and sell the items. Your companions will actually make more money selling the items than you would.
Finish All Daily Space Missions: Daily space missions will also make you a good amount of credits. If you are diligent about completing them everyday, you can easily accumulate a nice cushion of credits in just a week.
Participate in Warzones: Warzones, or PvP, will also earn you some nice credits. In addition, you'll also be earning valor, experience, and commendations.
Examine the Economy of Your Server: Every server's economy is unique. Check yours out and see what's lacking. Chances are, there's a demand that you can meet with just a little effort. A good place to start is to think about items that you need or needed during the leveling process. Finding which items are in demand, but lacking can really earn you a lot of credits. You suddenly become the sole supplier and always have a market to sell to.
