What You Should Know About Xbox Mods

By Esperanza Witt

Despite the introduction of newer models, the use of Xbox mods is still prevalent. Many people choose to modify their machines themselves but there are also companies which specialize in modifying consoles. The most common DIY mistakes arise from using the wrong equipment or from not understanding the procedures involved. Mistakes can lead to problems such as short circuiting or completely destroying the motherboard.

Outer cases of different colours and transparencies are available to change the appearance of the console. Other aesthetic changes are made to the eject button LED, by installing a new colour or an LED which flashes to let you know when the hard drive is in use. You can also have coloured LEDs installed in the controller ports.

There are also more practical modifications which include the installation of larger or of multiple hard drives for greater storage space and memory capacity. More space means that more information can be saved and stored on the console. It can also increase loading times and provide a better gaming experience.

Some cables can be modified for installation to the hard drive. These cable mods can increase performance speed, making game play and loading faster, by allowing the machine and the drive to communicate more quickly.

Modchips are essential for the use of certain modifications. Like all electronic devices modchips have evolved; from the early versions which needed lots of wiring, to the latest ones which can be fused straight onto the motherboard. These devices disable the built-in restrictions of the machine.

The appeal of modification is that it can enhance both the appearance and the game-play experience. However, before applying any Xbox mods, always check that the changes will not void your warranty. Another consideration is that some modifications are illegal, depending on where you live, so it's always best to check first. Read more about: xbox mods
