How Does Online DVD Rental Work?

By Clifford Gill

You know the drill if you've been a member of a regular DVD rental store. You visit the store, choose from their selection of DVDs and settle down for a relaxing evening of moving watching.

The problems start when you forget to return your video to the store. When you end up paying the late fees, your movie night becomes an expensive night at home. If you're tired of the hassle with DVD rental stores, consider renting DVDs online.

It's simple how online DVD companies work. You pay a monthly fee when you sign up for the service. This fee depends on how many DVDs you want to have out at any one time. The average is a maximum of two to three DVDs.

Once you have your account set up then you need to prepare your list of DVDs. Compiling your list from DVDs that have been released is easy to do. To keep a nice balance, you may have old favorites and new releases. Depending the mood you're in, you can also change the order of your list around. After the system selects the DVDs that are first from your list, they mail them to you.

You place the DVD in the pre-paid envelope it came with and mail it back to the company once you've watched it. After that, the company will send you another one from your list. It's simple, isn't it? There are no late fees because there's no time limit as to how long you can keep a particular DVD. Many of the services have a mix and match type of facility where you can specify the genre of the films that you want to have. With this, you know you won't have all children's or horror film at one time. To enable you to watch a series of films in the order they were made, your service may also have a first-to-last feature. You wouldn't want to watch The Ring 2, before The Ring, for example.
