The Old Republic is the Most Recent Hit MMORPG

By Adam Morgan

Set in the expansive Star Wars universe, Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) is truly a sight to behold. Taking cues from Mass Effect for its color scheme and style there is so much beauty in this game. As soon as you log in you will feel like you have truly stepped through a portal and into the Star Wars universe.

SWTOR is the one of the newest MMORPGs (massively-multiplayer online role-playing games) to grace the PC and it is incredible to say the least. Moving completely away from the general MMO genre, Star Wars: The Old Republic treads new ground by incorporating a massive, choice-based story line into the game.

This means that unlike WOW and most other MMOs where every player pretty much plays the exact same scenarios over and over, with The Old Republic every player will truly experience a different game and story.

Even better, this game is going Free to Play, meaning you will no longer have to pay the $15 monthly subscription fee. This will save you a bundle every month and you'll still be able to play with your friends and act out your Star Wars universe fantasies in game. The free gameplay will last you until Level 50, which is quite a substantial amount of play. On top of that, the price of the game is dropping to only $15, and you will get a free month of premium access with that.

New content is constantly being added, so you'll never run out of things to do. You'll soon be able to unlock new game items and get new features with Cartel Coins.

While still quite new, SWTOR is old enough to have matured significantly since it's release in December 2011. This means the annoying bugs, and annoying people, are now gone. The players that remain are dedicated and welcoming to all newcomers.

The universe inside The Old Republic is immense, as proven by the dozens of planets for you to explore and the space combat mini games. The mini games aren't as fun as they should have been. There is still lots to like about the game, despite that minor downside.

8 different character classes are available for you to choose from. The Republic or the Empire. Your choice will affect how the game unfolds for you. Dancing around with a lightsaber, slashing creates left and right. If this interest you, then this game is most definitely for you. There is even more choice for you once you've reached Level 10. Then you will be able to specialize into one of 16 advanced classes. Your original character class selection determines your choices for the advanced classes.

You will start the game on a different planet and with different sets of powers and abilities, depending on whether you chose the Republic or the Empire. You will have a blast exploring this massive and dangerous world, whichever side you choose. After you've played a few hours of Star Wars: The Old Republic, you will never look at MMOs the same way again.
