Why Are Aluminum Laptop Briefcases Such a Trend?

By Shannon Hilson

What do the numbers three, thirteen and twenty-four have in common? For one thing, they are all associated with popular movies and TV shows. Mission Impossible 3, the TV series 24 and the Jason Statham movie 13 are all action packed adventures that have one other thing in common: their stars use aluminum laptop briefcases. Clearly, this indicates a trend.

What made the producers choose aluminum laptop briefcases instead of ordinary briefcases? For one thing, the stars of these productions need high tech equipment to do their jobs. They can't get by without their GPS devices, secure mobile phones and state-of-the-art laptop computers. When your life and the fate of a nation depends on the safety of your equipment, you don't take any chances.

Your life may not depend on protecting your laptop and mobile devices from damage, but your your success in life probably does. These are the things you use to connect with your bank, check your stock portfolio and communicate with your business associates. Most of your most sensitive information is password protected and if you're like most people, even most of those are stored in your computer's memory, not your own.

While we don't all think we need to walk around with handcuffs attached to our wrist and laptop, we do like to think that our netbook or notebook computer is stored someplace safe. Pickpockets rarely steal an entire laptop carrying case, but they are very adept at unzipping them and stealing their contents. When you have a securely locked case firmly in your hand rather than a zippered bag slung across your shoulder, it gives you a much safer feeling.

Have you ever had to shield your case with your body when a sudden downpour came? You know how easy it is for water to get inside it and you know how much damage that water can do to your laptop. That's not the case, though, with aluminum laptop briefcases. Even in a downpour, their contents stay safe and dry.

The only real thing that aluminum laptop briefcases have in common with standard briefcases is that they both can carry all your important data. Aside from that, they have little in common. Leather and nylon cases are heavy and unwieldy compared to their aluminum counterparts. Slimline aluminum laptop cases designed for notebooks and netbooks feel almost weightless, yet provide all the protection your sensitive computer needs.

If you need a big briefcase for travel or business presentations, you can buy a rolling aluminum laptop carrying case that will be far easier to take with you wherever you go than a leather or nylon case would be. Whether you're going to the boss's office or on an overseas trip, aluminum laptop briefcases are perfect.

Do you remember the original "portable computers" from the eighties? In their time, they were "the latest thing," but today they look rather silly. The same thing is true of outdated nylon cases. Compared to aluminum laptop briefcases, they look like something your grandfather would have been proud to carry with him.
