Warning Signs That Your Xbox 360 Will Get The Red Ring Of Death

By Jack Livingston

If you own an Xbox 360, you have good reason to worry about whether your console will get the red ring of death. Perhaps you're wondering what sort of warning signs you will likely see. It is very common to see strange and even bizarre effects on your machine just before the onset of the ring of death.

It's important not to overlook or dismiss these warning signs just because you are still able to play games on your machine. They are telling you that there is a problem of some kind and that something very bad is about to happen.

The following are some very common warning signs:

1.) The only functional item is the button that turns the console on or off.

2.) The sound freezes or there are static like sounds.

3.) The console freezes.

4.) You're seeing problems with the graphics. There will be odd effects such as checker patterns, pin strips, or any distortions that are not a part of the game.

5.) A message appears when you start up that indicates that your disc is unreadable.

6.) Your Xbox is constantly getting the 2 red light error (which indicates overheating).

Actually, getting frequent 2 red light error messages isn't really a RROD warning sign. However, if you do noting about this problem and allow your Xbox to repeatedly overheat, then component damage will happen. When enough of this damage occurs, your Xbox will stop working.

You can also get the RROD without warning of any kind. If this should happen, it may be possible that your console is just fine. It could be that a cable simply needs to be reattached or that the console isn't getting adequate power.

The red ring of death can also be triggered directly by overheating. If this should happen then all you have to do is run the console in a cool state by making sure that the vents have easy access to cool air.

Another mistake is operating the console next to other heat sources. If you aren't making any of these mistakes and you're still experiencing overheating, then you may have to get a cooling fan, preferably one that is external and has it's own independent power supply.

If you are getting any of the warning signs mentioned here and they are getting gradually worse, then this means that an internal part or component is slowly becoming more damaged over time.
