By Liuburei Wang

Competition has been the mainstay of video games for decades now with players able to compete and do battle on thousands of different battlegrounds in hundreds of different games. There are only ever two objectives to competing: having fun and seeing who is better. The competition in online games has become serious and only more so with the growth of World of Warcraft. It gives people the ability to make characters from ten different classes, two factions and six races per faction. The results in player avatars that are unlike any other. As such, when it comes to the competitive modes, there can be very diverse results as to how each player fights. A Warlock PVP guide will provide a somewhat exhaustive list of how to play, but here are some tips to get your started.

Warlock Specializations

Warlocks are designed to do damage-over-time (DoT). While they're capable of a lot of damage in a short period of time, there are other classes that are superior in that regard. However, when fully kitted out and leveled correctly, a capable player can dominate the PVP scene with a Warlock.

There are three main types of Warlock; Affliction, Destruction and Demonology. As suggested, they each focus on different talents that grant the Warlock the ability to win a fight in different ways. Regardless of the specialization, a Warlock should always have some specific things first, such as Resilience. An amount of 800+ is respectable before dishing out the points into others.

An Affliction-based Warlock focuses on dealing as much damage-over-time as possible, while attempting to reduce the impact from his own cooldowns. The Warlock needs to last longer than his opponent in order to whittle him down and eventually win. It helps to develop this character to suit your playstyle, as is the case with many of the other designs.

Demonology focuses on the use of pets. Using them as tanks to take damage to distractions to slow down or deal damage to the opponent is essential, while you do the real damage. Alternatively, you could use them as a sacrifice to buff yourself. This class can also mix a little with the other two in terms of talents.

Destruction is completely focused on dealing the most damage as quickly as possible and getting as many critical hits as you can. This focus allows you to destroy opponents within seconds with only the toughest opponents outlasting these dangerous attacks. If quick enough and outfitted right, a player can easily dispatch some of the most dangerous opponents without trouble.
