Want to know what is even more frustrating than having a broken down ps3? I can think of a couple of things.
I can. How about the month you'll have to wait for it to come back if you send it out for a fix?
And how about, after all this cost you in the first place, paying $150 or so for repairs, that shouldn't be necessary.
With the right guide, the hardware issues you are experiencing with your are fixable at home and by you.
So, now you have 2 questions; what are common hardware problems, (hint - most have to do with heat). and what is in a good guide - what should one look for?
The problems. The following is a list of the most common repairs needed on a pc3, and all are hardware related:
1. YLOD (the yellow light of death)
2. flashing red light
3. freezing up issues
4. red screen
5. error codes
6. not reading discs
These are not uncommon issues. Particularly if you play for long periods at a time. But, there are permanent fixes, and you can do them.
The guide. What should one look for in a guide? There is much a guide can offer, but the following 3 are what I consider a must:
1. Thorough Videos
Videos should be step by step and actually cover each step. The beginner doesn't have the benefit of habits developed by experience. When experienced persons write instructions they tend to leave things out that seem to them so basic they are sure everyone already knows them. Beginners don't. Clear, understandable, step by step videos are important.
2. Simple tools
The guide should not call for other than common tools that most households already have. You don't want to go out and buy some odd ball item you will either lose, or never need again!
3.Covers common problems
Your guide needs to offer ways to repair the common hardware problems mentioned above. And, of course, the fixes recommended in the guide must be permanent fixes, if at all possible. You don't want this problem to repeat.
Even if you are a non-technical beginner, rarely will repairs take you more than an hour, if you have a good guide to help you.
And, let me tell you, this is good for the ego! I felt great telling my buddies I had fixed my YOLD problems myself. In fact, I was so pleased with me, I bought a new game!
