The R4 Card Brings NDS Home Brew To Your Pocket

By Jarmaine D. Steinman

There are far too many apps and games for the R4 DS Card for me to be able to write about all of them, and even if I could, it would be a work in progress as I would have to constantly update them as new titles were released.

Once you get your hands on your own Nintendo R4 Card you'll soon realize that the list of games and apps that are available to you, is mind boggling. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of freeware home brew applications and games out there - all available for you to download with no hassles at all.

Why are they free? They're free only because the developer decided to release them for free. The peope who made the game or application released it as home brew freeware, just as many developers release freeware or homebrew games and apps for your PC or Mac computer. The only stipulation of course is that you have a Nintendo R4 Card to be able to run homebrew games on your Nintendo DS or Nintendo DSi system.

One of the best examples of excellent home brew is Rick Dangerous. One of the games that just scream AMAZING way back from the good old days of gaming. It originally came out for the C64 computer to be followed by versions fo the Atari ST and the Amiga 500. With the main character, and the whole story line adding comedy to the mix of platform action - you won't be able to put it down.

Now, the game is available for your R4 DS Card and the Nintendo DSi in the form of a homebrew games, that is release for free by the developers. They have faithfully remade the game to be everything it was on those old systems, and you can get right into the thick of it with your R4 DS.

While I make the comparison to Indiana Jones, the game is actually not at all about Indiana Jones in any way, shape or form. I make the comparison only because the game reminds me so much of Indiana Jones. The game itself is very unique and has little, if any resemblence to the main character in Indiana Jones movies.

In all honesty, it is proabably the best example of a great platfrom style game for any game system. Rick Dangerous is the computer version of a Mario Style game, with even more features and extras to make it much better. It's been quoted, compared and now re-made for those of you lucky enough to own an Nintendo R4 Card.
